Industry News - 15th July 2025
With school, college or university coming to an end for the summer, many young people will be entering the job market for the first time. It can be a daunting task trying to work out how to make sure you get paid the right amount, at the right time; knowing how much tax to pay or even how to find your National Insurance (NI) number.
HMRC is encouraging those who are finishing exams and heading into the world of work to use the HMRC app to find their essential employment and tax information.
This free tool has already been downloaded by over 1.2 million people aged 25 and under and gives instant access to your NI number, tax code, pay details and employment history. This means you can give this information to your new employer promptly, ensuring you get paid correctly and can pay the right amount of tax from the start.
Over the summer, around 40,000 extra young workers are employed in a range of industries, from hospitality, retail or leisure to seasonal jobs like fruit picking.
With over 146,000 calls to HMRC last year from people who had lost or forgotten their NI number, it makes sense to download the app and retrieve your NI information simply and easily. This can then be stored in your digital wallet to access any time you need it.
