Industry News - 18th November 2025
As 31 January 2026 Self Assessment deadline will soon be upon us, HMRC is encouraging anyone who has not yet started their 2024–2025 return, to take action now.
More than 3.5 million people have already filed theirs, and starting now means you will know your tax bill sooner and have time to pay by the deadline.
A few quick points worth knowing this year:
- Not sure if you need to file a return? The Self Assessment checker on GOV.UK can confirm quickly
- If you sold shares or other assets after 30 October 2024, the updated Capital Gains Tax rates might mean you need to make a manual adjustment
- Some Child Benefit claimants paying the HICBC (High Income Child Benefit Charge) may now be able to move out of Self Assessment and pay through PAYE instead
- Winter Fuel Payments for 2025 do not need to go on this year’s return. Payments received this winter will be recovered in the 2025 – 2026 tax return
- And as always, keep an eye out for scams – never share your HMRC login details.
