HMRC has launched a new online interactive tool to help guide both businesses and individuals through tax compliance checks.
The Interactive Compliance Guidance tool is now available on GOV.UK and provides information to help taxpayers understand:
· HMRC compliance checks
· Why HMRC has requested specific information or documents
· How to request extra support due to health or personal circumstances
· How to appoint someone to act on your behalf
· What to do if you disagree with a decision made by HMRC
· How to pay a tax assessment or penalty.
A tax compliance check involves HMRC contacting you in order to check your tax position. This is to make sure you are paying the right amount of tax and claiming the right allowances and tax reliefs. HMRC will request information or documents via letter and will then arrange a discussion to examine your position and implement any changes to be made as a result.
According to HMRC, the new tool is designed to bring together existing compliance guidance and videos in one place, to make it easier to find and navigate the appropriate information.
If you have any questions about HMRC compliance checks or any other accounting or tax issues, please get in touch.
